Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid declared that his centrist Yesh Atid party is pulling out of the World Zionist Organization (WZO), accusing the 127-year-old institution of corruption and political favoritism. He criticized the organization's failure to prioritize public interest, which he believes is driving Diaspora Jews away from Israel.
Lapid also announced plans to nationalize the Jewish National Fund (Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael, KKL-JNF), which manages over 13% of Israeli land. He views this step as necessary to restore trust and proper governance.
This decision disrupted ongoing coalition talks at the World Zionist Congress, a once-every-five-years gathering in Jerusalem. The congress had been negotiating power-sharing agreements among Israeli political parties and major Diaspora Jewish organizations.
“A system to arrange jobs for the Netanyahu family,” Lapid condemned, denouncing the nepotism implied by the offer.
In response, Lapid stated his party would reject all posts and funding linked to Zionist institutions until these issues are addressed.
Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid party quits the World Zionist Organization, condemning its corruption and nepotism, and advocates nationalizing the Jewish National Fund to restore integrity and support for Israel globally.
