Warriors Without Curry, Butler and Green in Matchup vs. Kings

The Golden State Warriors faced the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday without their three marquee players: Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler. Curry did not join the team’s late-night bus trip to Sacramento, and both Green and Butler were ruled out before tipoff.

Head coach Steve Kerr adjusted the lineup significantly, starting rookie guard Will Richard, second-year center Quentin Post, and guard Moses Moody alongside Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga. The young group represented the least experienced starting five used by Golden State since April 26, 2012, well before Kerr became head coach.

“Obviously it’s more difficult when you’re missing your stars, but it’s a great opportunity for a lot of guys,” Kerr said before the game. He added that he expected “energy, pace,” and aggressive play from the new lineup while aiming for a solid 48 minutes of basketball.

Kerr emphasized that he wanted his team to push the ball forward, stay assertive on offense, and contain defensive penetration, despite the challenge. The situation was somewhat eased by the Kings also dealing with multiple injuries of their own.

Starting Lineup

In their absence, the Warriors’ young core had a rare chance to prove themselves under the spotlight and showcase their energy in a tough road matchup.

Author’s summary: Golden State's youthful lineup faced the Kings short-handed, offering rising players a chance to step up while injuries tested Steve Kerr’s depth and adaptability.
