Shapiro was raised in Burbank, Los Angeles County. His mother worked as a TV company executive, and his father was a composer and pianist. Both parents identified as Reagan Republicans. He grew up in a modest two-bedroom home, sharing a bedroom with his three older sisters.
In 2015, Shapiro co-founded The Daily Wire, a conservative media company that produces podcasts, streamed shows, scripted movies, and documentaries. As of 2024, The Daily Wire's value was estimated to exceed $220 million.
