The White House is set to reveal later Thursday that an additional country will establish diplomatic ties with Israel under the Abraham Accords, according to Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy.
Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Witkoff stated,
“I'm flying back to Washington tonight because we're going to announce, tonight, another country coming into the Abraham Accords.”
The Abraham Accords, initiated during President Trump's first term, led to normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab nations in 2020. These agreements marked a significant shift in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
The accords contributed to growing isolation of the Palestinians by undermining a long-held Arab consensus that recognition of Israel should be contingent on peace concessions. Palestinians, who have endured Israeli occupation for years, view the agreements as a betrayal by Arab states that had pledged to support their independence and push Israel to withdraw from lands occupied after 1948.
Author's summary: The White House will announce a new country joining the Abraham Accords, deepening Arab-Israeli normalization while intensifying Palestinian isolation amid ongoing territorial disputes.
