First Picture of Death Row Grandmother Lindsay Sandiford Back on British Soil

Lindsay Sandiford, 69, was photographed arriving at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 4 on Friday. She is a British grandmother who spent over a decade on death row in Indonesia after being convicted of smuggling £1.6 million worth of cocaine into Bali 13 years ago.

Sandiford appeared in a wheelchair wearing black leggings and a green cardigan, covering her face with her clothing upon arrival. She left Indonesia earlier that day, having been spared execution after an agreement between Jakarta and London allowed for her repatriation on humanitarian grounds.

The British government reportedly spent £600 on her return flight. Prior to departure, Sandiford was seen at a handover ceremony at Kerobokan Prison in Bali.

She left the notorious prison alongside Shabab Shahabadi, 35, another British inmate serving a life sentence for drug offenses. The two were transported to Denpasar International Airport and expected to be handed over to British Ambassador Dominic Jeremy before their flight.

"Lindsay Sandiford and Shahab Shahabadi have serious health conditions and are being repatriated on humanitarian grounds," stated the UK's deputy ambassador to Indonesia, Matthew Downing, at a news conference.

Summary: Lindsay Sandiford, a British grandmother previously on death row in Indonesia, has been repatriated to the UK on humanitarian grounds due to her serious health conditions.
