Alexis Black, a 32-year-old transgender woman from Los Angeles, gained national attention this week following a confrontation at Gold's Gym in Beverly Hills.
On Sunday, singer Tish Hyman loudly protested in front of gymgoers, shouting about Black using the women's changing rooms. Hyman exclaimed,
“Grown men with big d**ks [are] in the women's locker room.”
As she was asked to leave the gym, Hyman added,
“And I want to make sure the girls know.”
Black, who previously went by Grant Freeman, began her hormonal transition in February shortly before arriving in Los Angeles. She has been openly using the women's changing room at Gold's Gym since she started taking estrogen and progesterone.
Black said she felt disrespected by Hyman’s confrontation in the locker room but noted this was not their first encounter. She stated,
“She didn't want to do introductions.”
A divorcee originally from Ohio and a former DJ, Black has discussed her transition openly with several women while working out.
Gold's Gym, where the incident occurred, is currently owned by EoS Fitness.
