On Wednesday, October 22nd, at 7pm, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai participated in an online seminar for Ursinus students discussing her latest memoir, Finding My Way. The event was part of the Author’s Talk Series hosted by the Library Speakers Consortium.
Malala joined host and moderator Brandon Adler for a one-hour session, answering questions submitted beforehand as well as live inquiries from the seminar chat. Adler introduced the Consortium as “a partnership of more than 500 library systems across the US, Canada, and New Zealand, aiming to make author talks accessible to communities of all sizes.”
Finding My Way is distinct from Malala’s first memoir, I Am Malala, because of its deeply personal and candid tone.
“This memoir is the most personal reflection I have ever shared,” Yousafzai said. “This is me reintroducing myself for who I am and the most important thing for me in all of these years has been to be true to myself. This is not to show myself as a symbol or as a hero but to show myself for who I am. This is the most personal story, and I have been very honest and open in talking about everything just to ensure that it’s the true side that people can learn more about.”
The event provided a rare opportunity to hear Malala’s reflections beyond her public image, emphasizing authenticity and self-truth.
Author’s summary: Malala’s memoir reveals her true self through honest storytelling, emphasizing a personal journey beyond her public persona.
