Sony Expands Cloud Gaming on PlayStation Portal
Cloud gaming continues to thrive despite setbacks from past projects like Google's Stadia. Sony is advancing this trend with its PlayStation Portal handheld device now supporting cloud gaming for all users.
PlayStation Portal Overview
The PlayStation Portal is a handheld device similar to the Steam Deck but requires an existing PlayStation 5 console to stream games. It does not have the capability to run games independently.
New Cloud Gaming Features
Effective immediately, PlayStation Portal owners can access cloud gaming without connecting to a PlayStation 5 via Remote Play. This includes:
- Playing select digital PS5 games from their own library through cloud streaming
- Accessing a catalog of PlayStation games via PlayStation Plus cloud streaming
Sony has introduced a new Cloud Streaming home screen and a game search function to help users find titles they own or can access through PlayStation Plus.
