A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against the City of Boynton Beach and Officer Jermaine Jones after the fatal shooting of Fridelene Daniel. The complaint, brought by attorney Gary Susser on behalf of Daniel’s young daughter, claims police failed to protect Daniel despite her repeated pleas for help.
Two years prior to her death, Daniel had reported being stalked by her ex-boyfriend, Robens Cesar. According to the lawsuit, she went to the Boynton Beach Police Station for assistance just minutes before she was killed. Investigative reporter Terri Parker obtained both the lawsuit and footage from the lobby camera that captured Daniel’s final interaction with police.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with him, every time he keeps following me. I don’t want that. He has a gun. I don’t want him to make me die,”
Daniel told the officer in the recording. The lawsuit claims Officer Jones mocked her accent, laughed at her choice of words, and downplayed the danger she faced. The footage also reportedly captured the officer using unprofessional language.
“So, one year ago. OK, you got to find you a new boo. OK, work on a new relationship, alright? I’m good.”
Minutes later, Daniel was fatally shot, and Cesar was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
The suit contends that the police department and Officer Jones failed in their duty to protect Daniel, arguing that the dismissive behavior contributed to the tragedy. Daniel’s daughter is seeking justice for what the complaint calls a preventable death.
Author’s summary: The tragic case of Fridelene Daniel underscores how neglect and mockery by police can have devastating consequences when victims seek urgent protection from violence.
