Planter’s Peanut Costume

In fifth grade, I created a Planter’s Peanut costume inspired by a photo my mom found online. I mostly made it myself, featuring a monocle, a top hat, and a structured body suit shaped like a peanut. Constructing the body was an elaborate process involving pigeon wire, paper maché, and spray paint. Despite the stress and effort, the costume was finished in time for Halloween and remains special to me eight years later.

Fish Tank Costume

During fifth grade, while obsessed with fish, my mom suggested I dress as a fish tank. I searched for a large Amazon box to fit over my shoulders and waist. To fill the tank, I crafted fish from origami, Rainbow Loom, and Perler beads. I hung these fish inside the box to "swim" as I moved. The bulky costume prevented me from sitting during class, but it was my proudest creation for months.

Dinosaur Spikes Costume

In sixth grade, wearing my usual grey hoodie with a neon orange zipper, I joined classmates to fold Post-it notes into dinosaur spikes just minutes before the elementary school Halloween parade.

"The amount of effort and unnecessary stress that went into my Planter’s Peanut outfit is exactly why the costume remains so special to me eight years later."

Author's summary: Memorable Halloween costumes often reflect personal creativity and dedication, making even the most elaborate efforts rewarding long after the holiday.
