The Faithful Pride Initiative (FPI) at Good Faith Media has introduced a new logo inspired by Celtic art, symbolizing peace and wholeness for queer people of faith. This update supports the initiative's efforts to increase visibility both online and in public as their work expands.
Kali Cawthon-Freels, leader of the Faithful Pride Initiative, shared insights on the logo's meaning:
“We wanted something that speaks to both queerness and faith. We chose Celtic imagery because Celtic spirituality predates Christianity, just as gender and sexual diversity predates current discussions on these subjects. There’s an ancient lineage we come from, even if that history has been largely suppressed by mainstream culture since the advent of European colonialism.”
“But that’s not just any Celtic symbol. That specific Celtic knot symbolizes ‘peace.’ Those of us who follow the Christian faith know that the word for peace in the Hebrew Bible also means ‘completeness’ and ‘wholeness.’ It reflects the integration of mind, body, and spirit into a cohesive whole.”
Using the Celtic knot representing peace, the initiative conveys that queer people of faith should feel welcome to bring their full identities into religious communities and public life.
Author’s summary: The Faithful Pride Initiative's new Celtic-inspired logo encapsulates unity, peace, and acceptance for queer believers, bridging ancient symbolism with contemporary faith identity.
