Hollywood icon Lucy Liu was honoured with the prestigious Réalta Award at the Belfast Film Festival for her film Rosemead. The award recognises actors and filmmakers who contribute positively through their work.
Rosemead explores the delicate story of a terminally ill mother and her schizophrenic teenage son. Liu not only starred in the film but also took on the role of producer, which she says strengthened her connection to the story.
During her visit to Belfast, Liu spoke warmly of the local community, describing them as “warm and welcoming.” She enjoyed traditional foods like soda bread and potato bread, though she declined to try black pudding.
“It’s just an honour to be here and to celebrate all of the art and the culture the festival has brought to the community,” Liu told BBC News NI.
Liu filmed the action comedy Old Guy over a month in Northern Ireland in 2023. She praised the working environment and the friendships she made while staying there.
