Peloton is recalling approximately 833,000 bikes following reports of seat post failures that could cause falls and injuries, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The affected models are certain Peloton Original Series Bike+ units, specifically those with model number PL02 and serial numbers beginning with the letter “T.” These bikes were manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022 and sold in the United States.
The seat post assembly on these bikes can break during use, creating a potential hazard for riders.
“Posing a potential fall and injury risk to consumers.”
Peloton has received three reports of this seat post breaking while exercising, including two cases where riders were injured from falls.
About 833,000 units were sold in the U.S., primarily through Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide, online retailers like Amazon and eBay, and Peloton’s official website onepeloton.com. There were no reported incidents from approximately 44,800 units sold in Canada.
Peloton urges all owners of the recalled bikes to stop using them immediately and to contact the company for a free seat post replacement, which can be installed by the users themselves.
“Users are warned to stop using the recalled bikes ‘immediately’ and contact the company for a free seat post replacement that can be self-installed.”
The Original Series Bike+ was originally priced at about $2,495 and sold from January 2020 through April 2025 in the U.S.
Summary: Peloton's voluntary recall of over 830,000 bikes addresses a critical seat post issue that poses a serious risk of falls and injuries, highlighting the company's proactive consumer safety measures.
