Mark Richt, the former Georgia coach and current ACC Network analyst, took to social media to clear up false reports about his health. Despite online rumors claiming he is hospitalized, Richt confirmed that he is not in the hospital.
“Apparently, there’s something out there on the Internet saying that I’m in the hospital,” Richt posted on X. “Lol.”
Richt acknowledged his recent unsteady walking and explained that people have been asking about his condition. He revealed that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2021.
“I have been waddling around lately and people have asked me what’s wrong,” Richt said. “I’ve decided to tell everyone at the same time. I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Truthfully I look at it as a momentary light affliction compared to the future glory in heaven. Thank you Jesus for promising us a future blessing of a glorified body that has no sin and no disease. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy the blessings that I do have. See you on the ACC Network!”
In addition to Parkinson’s, Richt suffered a heart attack in 2019. His coaching career includes a record of 145-51 at Georgia from 2001 to 2015, securing SEC titles in 2002 and 2005. Following that, he led the Miami Hurricanes to a 26-13 record over three seasons before retiring in 2018.
Richt played quarterback at Miami in the early 1980s. His last two coaching seasons saw a 10-win year in 2017, followed by a 7-6 record in 2018.
Mark Richt dispelled false hospitalization rumors, shared his Parkinson’s diagnosis, and reflected on his accomplished coaching career and faith.
