Lakers reserve big man Maxi Kleber returned to action in Saturday’s 122-102 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena. After missing the first nine games due to an abdominal muscle strain, Kleber was upgraded from questionable to available just 2½ hours before tipoff.
“I’m gonna be ready. Just be prepared and be back out with the guys, get back in rhythm and routine.” — Maxi Kleber
Kleber sustained the injury during a preseason practice drive to the basket. He described it as “very unfortunate, unlucky,” but emphasized working hard to maintain conditioning and return quickly.
He entered the game in the third quarter at the 5:59 mark when Coach JJ Redick rested his main rotation players as the Lakers trailed 90-65. In 14 minutes, Kleber scored one point on free throws, blocked two shots, grabbed two rebounds, and provided an assist.
Previously, Kleber, 33, missed much of the preseason due to a minor quadriceps injury sustained during the Lakers’ first training camp practice in September.
Author’s summary: Maxi Kleber returned from injury to make his season debut for the Lakers, contributing defensively and maintaining readiness despite extended time sidelined.
