The majority of the Montreal Canadiens' forwards have performed well in their roles since Patrik Laine suffered a long-term sports hernia injury after the sixth game of the season. However, wherever Joe Veleno has played, his presence has lowered his line's effectiveness.
"The majority of the Montreal Canadiens’ forwards have looked good thus far in their respective roles since Patrik Laine went down long-term with a sports hernia injury after the 6th game of the season; however, no matter where Joe Veleno has played, he has brought down the efficiency of his line." — Matt Drake (@DrakeMT), November 8, 2025
It may be time to consider calling up someone like Lucas Condotta, who has brief NHL experience, or Jared Davidson from the Laval Rocket. Improving the lineup by replacing Veleno could be beneficial.
When Veleno played alongside Kirby Dach and Zack Bolduc, he held back their offensive output. His skill set, successful in the QMJHL, has not fully transitioned to the professional level, forcing him into a more defensive role.
While his abilities might suit a fourth-line role, Veleno seems to lack the necessary work ethic. Typically, a fourth-liner is expected to play a tough, forechecking game rather than a finesse style, which does not align with Veleno’s play.
A replacement for Joe Veleno might be necessary as his current playstyle and work ethic do not meet the demands of his role on the Montreal Canadiens.
