Canada's Rachel Homan secured a record-breaking 20th Grand Slam of Curling title by defeating Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni 7-4 in the final of the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe held on Sunday.
The match marked the third consecutive Grand Slam women's final featuring the world's top two ranked teams, with Homan emerging victorious each time. The Ottawa-based team, consisting of Homan, third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, and lead Sarah Wilkes, went unbeaten with a 7-0 record in the tournament, earning a $42,000 prize.
"Yeah, it's an unbelievable feeling, especially winning a game that was a battle out there for both teams," said Homan. "It's just really fun to play such an amazing team, and being able to pull out the win is an awesome feeling."
Switzerland's team—skip Silvana Tirinzoni, fourth Alina Pätz, second Carole Howald, and lead Selina Witschonke—suffered their only loss of the week in the final, securing a $34,000 prize. Tirinzoni holds an 18-3 record this Grand Slam season, with all three defeats coming against Homan in finals.
Starting with the hammer, the Swiss aimed to avoid repeating last month's CO-OP Tour Challenge mistake where an initial shot error led to a major four-point steal by Homan.
Rachel Homan's flawless performance in KIOTI GSOC Tahoe highlights her dominance in women's curling, solidifying her legacy with a 20th Grand Slam title.
