October 2025 brought diverse weather patterns across the UK, highlighting regional contrasts in temperature, rainfall, and sunshine hours typical of autumn’s shifting mood.
Throughout October, mild temperatures persisted across much of the country. Rainfall was largely concentrated in the western and northern regions, while southern and eastern areas stayed relatively dry. This pattern reinforced the typical autumnal theme of unpredictability.
Above-average temperatures suggest autumn 2025 is trending milder than usual, marked by fewer frosty nights and a postponed arrival of winter’s chill. The wetter conditions in the west and north could influence river levels and increase flood risks, whereas the south and east benefit from continued agricultural activity and outdoor events.
“October 2025 has been the dullest October in almost 60 years for the UK. A week of persistent anticyclonic gloom, combined with unsettled weather and a named storm, made it only the second month this year, after February, to register below-average sunshine,” said Met Office scientist Dr Emily Carlisle.
October 2025 in the UK was marked by regional contrasts and mild weather, with dull skies and uneven rainfall shaping one of the least sunny Octobers in decades.
