BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox has begun a 135-mile endurance journey across the North East of England to raise funds for Children in Need. The challenge, titled the Great Northern Marathon Challenge, will see her complete five marathons in five days.
Starting today, November 10, from Kielder Forest, Cox will travel on foot across County Durham, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and West Yorkshire. The trek will culminate in Pudsey, Leeds, on Friday, November 14 — a symbolic destination for the cause.
Throughout her journey, Sara will run, jog, and walk through sweeping moorlands and rugged hills, carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack as a tribute to the charity’s beloved mascot.
“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure. We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got.”
“I know the brilliant Radio 2 listeners will be with me every step of the way, and their encouragement and support will shove me up every incline and pull me through my toughest moments.”
Children in Need’s mascot, Pudsey, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, making Cox’s commitment to raising vital funds especially poignant.
Sara Cox’s 135-mile, five-day trek unites endurance and empathy, marking four decades of Children in Need by inspiring nationwide generosity.
