Mike Shildt, former manager of the Springfield and St. Louis Cardinals, has announced his retirement from the San Diego Padres after two seasons.
Shildt managed the Springfield Cardinals from 2012-2014 and the St. Louis Cardinals from July 2018 through the 2021 season. He led the Springfield Cardinals to a Texas League Championship in 2012.
The grind of the baseball season has taken a severe toll on me mentally, physically and emotionally.
During his tenure with the San Diego Padres, Shildt went 183-141 and led the team to two postseason appearances. The Padres won 90 games this season and finished second in the NL West.
The Padres' general manager, Preller, issued a statement praising Shildt.
