Vacherot Wins Shanghai Masters

Valentin Vacherot became Monaco's first ATP Tour singles champion by beating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in Shanghai.

Vacherot, ranked 204th in the world, made history as the lowest-ranked player to win a Masters 1000 event. He came from a set down for the sixth time in the tournament, winning 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Rinderknech won the opening set with 12 winners and just two unforced errors. However, Vacherot broke his opponent in consecutive games from 3-3 in the second set, leading by a break in the third.

Vacherot beat four-time Shanghai champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
