Solar Energy Leads Renewable Electricity Sources in the US
Solar electrical generation in the United States is setting records, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The EIA's latest "Electric Power Monthly" report shows that utility-scale solar generation increased nearly 30% from August 2024 to August 2025, while rooftop solar increased 10.8%.
Combined, solar sources provided 9.5% of the nation's electrical output in August, up from 7.6% one year ago.
A review of the EIA data by the SUN DAY Campaign found that solar-generated electricity surpassed hydropower plants' output by over 58% year-to-date.
In August alone, solar-generated electricity more than doubled the output of the nation's hydropower plants.
