Wiedower Resigns, Special Election to be Held in December
Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.
His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election in December. Currently, Democrat Eric Gisler is running for the House seat in 2026, but may also choose to run in the special election.
This is not the first time a State Representative for Oconee has resigned, triggering a special election. In 2017, special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick, after they left office for other positions.
That year, Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez won both House seats representing Oconee County.
