GENEVA — Lawyers of Vicken Euljekjian, a 46-year-old Armenian tour guide, have petitioned the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNWGAD) to order his immediate release.
Euljekjian was arrested on November 10, 2020, in Shushi (Nagorno-Karabakh), and sentenced to 20 years in prison on June 14, 2021, on charges of “mercenary activity” and “terrorism”.
His detention and conviction are arbitrary and violate fundamental human rights protections.
His lawyers cite grave violations of international law and severe detention conditions that endanger his life.
