Australia: Polymetals Moves to Reopen Cobar Mine

Polymetals Resources has announced that work will resume at the mine on Wednesday, just three days after a fatal explosion killed two workers and seriously injured another.

The blast occurred at Endeavor Mine, north of Cobar in far-west New South Wales (NSW), taking the lives of 59-year-old Ambrose Patrick McMullen and 24-year-old Holly Clarke, and leaving 24-year-old Mackenzie Stirling badly injured.

According to Polymetals, the return to work will be carried out in stages, starting with "exploration drilling and concentrate transport" and the "completion of planned statutory electrical works."

The reopening is a clear statement of the company’s intent: It’s time to put grieving aside and get back to the business of making money.

Author's summary: Polymetals reopens mine after fatal blast.
