Dredging begins again in Channel Islands Harbor | News Channel 3-12

Dredging Resumes in Channel Islands Harbor

Dredging equipment has returned to the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project, typically conducted every other year, was delayed last year due to permitting issues.

The dredging aims to remove sand from the harbor's mouth to facilitate boat traffic and will also transport sand through a pipeline to the beach in Port Hueneme, which has been affected by erosion. The project is expected to be completed early next year.

In addition to the dredging, the area is also home to a group of sea lions, which are proving to be a challenge for crews working on new dock construction. Despite efforts to deter them with poles and colorful tape, the sea lions continue to sun themselves on the new docks near the harbor's mouth.

Isn't easy keeping them off anything.

Crews have posted various warnings to keep the sea lions away, but so far, they have been unsuccessful.
