Shapiro Confident of New Deal with Blue Jays

Mark Shapiro, president of the Toronto Blue Jays, showed confidence in reaching a new contract agreement soon. Speaking during the team's end-of-season availability on Thursday, Shapiro addressed questions about his contract status.

“I think we’ll likely work something out soon.”

He explained that contract discussions were paused during the postseason to avoid distractions amid the team’s run to the World Series. Shapiro’s current contract is believed to expire in early 2026.

Shapiro’s Background and Leadership

At 58 years old, Shapiro is originally from Cambridge, MA. He took over as Blue Jays president in fall 2015, replacing longtime president Paul Beeston.

Before joining Toronto, Shapiro spent about 20 years with the Cleveland organization, progressing from player development director to general manager, and eventually president in 2010.

In December of his first year with the Blue Jays, he hired Ross Atkins, Cleveland’s vice-president of player personnel, as Toronto’s new general manager.

Mark Shapiro remains a steady influence for the Blue Jays, balancing leadership continuity with strategic moves in management.
