Former Miss USA Noelia Voigt showed solidarity with Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch and other contestants who left the Miss Universe event after feeling disrespected by an executive. Voigt, 26, voiced her support for the women who took a stand.
“When I woke up yesterday morning and saw the video circulating across the internet showing what happened, I was shocked, disgusted, disappointed and genuinely horrified,” Voigt wrote on Instagram on November 5. “As someone who served as Miss USA 2023 and later made the decision to step away from my title, I understand what it feels like when your voice is dismissed and your dignity is demeaned.”
During the ceremony, Miss Universe executive Nawat Itsaragrisil called Bosch, 25, a “dumb head,” meaning “fool” or “empty-headed.” He told her, “You must listen to me first, then argue with me.”
“I think you must understand the pressure is a lot, I am a human sometimes,” Itsaragrisil said. “By the way, I have not intend[ed] to hurt anyone.”
Itsaragrisil has since apologized for his comments, emphasizing that he did not mean to offend anyone.
In May 2024, Voigt voluntarily stepped down from her Miss USA title, citing mental health reasons.
