Sombre Camilla Lays Down Wooden Cross Ahead of Remembrance Day

The Queen paid her respects to fallen soldiers during a poignant ceremony at Westminster Abbey's Field of Remembrance. Each year, the lawn of St Margaret's Church is marked with 250 plots honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the armed forces.

The event was organized by the Poppy Factory, for which Her Majesty, 78, serves as a patron. King Charles’ wife appeared solemn in a blue Fiona Clare dress and red beret, reflecting the uniform of The Royal Lancers, a regiment she is Colonel-in-Chief of.

Camilla has a personal connection to The Royal Lancers; her late father, Major Bruce Shand MC and Bar, served with the 12th Lancers during World War Two and was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery.

During the Thursday service, she followed tradition by laying a wooden remembrance cross ahead of Armistice Day on 11 November. Visitors to the site can purchase crosses in various shapes representing different religions.

Camilla also engaged warmly with several attendees, including veterans and active service members, and showed affection for a dog brought to the event.
