Lorenzo Musetti still has a chance to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals, scheduled in Turin from November 9-16. To secure his spot, he must win the Athens ATP 250 trophy this week.
The Italian talent was surpassed in the ATP Race by Felix Auger-Aliassime after the Canadian reached the Paris Masters 1000 final last week. Musetti has not claimed a title in over three years and faced a tough match against Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka. He narrowly prevailed in the third set after almost losing in the second-set tiebreak, where he was two points away from defeat.
"He had a lot of problems managing the tension and did not express his best tennis for most of the match, but some errors by 'Stanimal' in the decisive moment of the tiebreak helped him to make a really valuable comeback."
2025 marks the most consistent year in Musetti’s young career, finally overcoming inconsistencies from previous seasons. His standout performances came on red clay, with a final appearance in Monte Carlo and a semifinal run at Roland Garros, despite an injury that affected his early summer.
Musetti's versatility is also clear as he reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, where he lost to fellow Italian Jannik Sinner.
Lorenzo Musetti has demonstrated significant growth this year, making a strong case to qualify for the ATP Finals by overcoming challenges and gaining consistency.
