Aimee Lou Wood shared how she has grown more confident in expressing her needs, highlighting support from Angelina Jolie during the filming of Anxious People. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress recounted a stressful moment on set when multiple crew members shouted directions, disrupting an emotional scene.
Wood asked for clear and singular guidance without distractions, saying,
“I’ve spent years feeling unable to say anything like that for fear of seeming argumentative – but now I feel like I can take ownership of what I need to thrive, and tell people what won’t work for me.”
She recalled seeing Angelina Jolie giving her a reassuring thumbs up, noting Jolie’s grounded nature despite her fame:
“When I spoke up, all I could see was Angelina giving me a thumbs up. She’s possibly the most famous woman ever, but she’s so normal.”
Wood also reflected on a previous moment when she confronted a “mean and unfunny” impression on Saturday Night Live, describing it as “breaking a pattern” of not standing up to childhood bullies. The April sketch had parodied her White Lotus character Chelsea, with comedian Sarah Sherman exaggerating Wood’s teeth, a topic Wood has expressed fatigue over discussing.
Aimee Lou Wood’s story illustrates her journey toward asserting herself and finding support, particularly from Angelina Jolie, fostering her growth both professionally and personally.
