Florian Wirtz has experienced a slow start at Liverpool, but Gary Lineker remains confident about the German international's potential impact at Anfield. Lineker emphasized that Wirtz "is really good at football" and has demonstrated enough in the past to suggest he will eventually prove his worth for the club.
The Reds began their summer transfer window by signing Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth a British record £116 million at the time. Despite the hype around his arrival, Wirtz has yet to score or provide an assist in the Premier League. He was also an unused substitute during Liverpool's recent 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.
At 22 years old, Wirtz faces growing scrutiny; however, both Lineker and Micah Richards believe he possesses the qualities to succeed at Liverpool. Lineker called the German an "exceptional" talent, while Richards commented on the spending and decision behind the signing:
“At the moment he is not up to speed for the Premier League, but they spent £100m on him, and 100% it was the right decision that they made.”
Richards also reflected on Liverpool's recent player losses and adjustments:
“I know we have talked about Trent (Alexander-Arnold) before and all that sort of thing; of course you are going to miss that calibre of player. Liverpool now go back to what they did last season.”
Despite a slow start and high expectations, Florian Wirtz retains strong backing from experts who believe his talent will shine through at Liverpool.
