People across Leicester will honor the city’s fallen service men and women this weekend.
The annual Service of Remembrance will be held at the Arch of Remembrance in Victoria Park on Sunday, 9 November, starting at 10:45 am.
This year’s service carries special significance, marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War and the 100th anniversary of Leicester’s Arch of Remembrance, unveiled in 1925 to memorialize those lost in the First World War.
The Portland stone arch has undergone careful restoration in time for Remembrance Day. Specialist contractors used high-temperature steam to gently clean the stone, and the engraved lettering has been re-gilded with materials that respect the arch's Listed Building status.
A bugler will sound the Last Post, followed by the firing of salutes marking the start of the two-minute silence at 11 am.
Leicester’s Remembrance Sunday brings together the community to pay tribute, reflecting on sacrifices and shared history.
