San Antonio — Spurs forward Julian Champagnie swapped his basketball jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume this Halloween, surprising young patients at Methodist Children’s Hospital.
Joined by the Spurs' mascot, Coyote, Champagnie handed out candy, took photos, and spent time with the children, adding to the hospital’s festive spirit.
Each year, Methodist Children’s Hospital transforms with themed decorations and costumes worn by staff. The event includes reverse trick-or-treating, where hospital leadership visits patients room-to-room to distribute treats.
This year’s celebration was extra special thanks to Champagnie’s visit and the appearance of three Emergency Services Facility Dogs—Lady, Fresca, and Chanel—dressed as a surgeon, witch, and spider.
“I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see the actual walking dream. I didn’t think I was this special, but he made me feel like I was,” said Jamal Magee, a young patient.
“I appreciate the hospital for giving me this opportunity. For him to stop by and show some love meant so much to me. It’s hard to describe.”
Julian Champagnie’s Halloween visit brought unexpected joy and inspiration to young patients, highlighting the hospital’s dedication to creating meaningful experiences during festive occasions.
