In his memoir We Did It, Kid, Sir Anthony Hopkins extends a deeply personal message to his estranged daughter, Abigail Hopkins. The 87-year-old Academy Award-winning actor uses the book to express a heartfelt plea for reconciliation after years of distance between them.
Hopkins recently discussed their strained relationship during a New York Times interview while promoting his memoir. He confirmed that an effort to reconnect, made by his current wife Stella Arroyave, was left unanswered by Abigail.
"My wife, Stella, sent an invitation [to Abigail] to come and see us. I wish her well, but I'm not going to waste blood over that. If you want to waste your life being in resentment, fine, go ahead."
Anthony shares Abigail with his first wife, Petronella Barker, from whom he separated in 1972. Despite the silence, Hopkins expresses hope and openness in his memoir.
Addressing Abigail directly, he writes:
"I hope my daughter knows that my door is always open to her. I want her to be well and happy."
The memoir was released on November 4 and offers a glimpse into Hopkins' personal reflections and desire for healing in their relationship.
