Three people have died after a light plane crashed and caught fire at Shellharbour Airport on Saturday.

According to Lake Illawarra police district's chief inspector Aaron Wunderlich, the Piper Cherokee Lance aircraft took off at about 10am on Saturday, October 11, and got about 30 metres into the air before dipping with its left wing and contacting the tarmac.
