Oilers' Connor Ingram speaks on his mental health, progress update revealed on call-up

Oilers' Connor Ingram Discusses Mental Health and Progress After Call-Up

Connor Ingram, goalie for the Edmonton Oilers' AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors, opened up about his mental health challenges and his journey back to professional hockey.

Mental Health Struggles and Support

Ingram has faced significant personal obstacles, having entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program twice. The first time was in 2021 for depression and undiagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He re-entered the program in March 2025 after the loss of his mother and his father’s cancer diagnosis.

“When I stepped away, I knew it was probably: keep playing hockey or lose your life. I made a decision, and I accepted what was going to come next.”

Recent Career and Recovery

Following these challenges, Ingram missed most of the 2024-25 season for personal reasons. After being traded to the Edmonton Oilers on October 1, 2025, he was assigned to the Bakersfield Condors in the American Hockey League to regain form and fitness, especially after missing training camp.
