Former Georgia Coach Mark Richt Opens 'Tragedy into Triumph' Series

MOUNT VERNON — Difficulties are a shared part of human experience, regardless of fame, fortune, or circumstance. Wendell Brown sees this truth as central to his mission through the "Tragedy into Triumph" ministry.

As part of the program, a three-night event is being held at the R.R. Hodges Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The series aims to explore personal resilience and spiritual growth through real-life stories.

Mark Richt Shares Lessons on Perseverance

Former Georgia head football coach Mark Richt, now an in-studio analyst for the ACC/ESPN Network, participated as the first guest of the event. Richt’s 33-year coaching career included 14 years at Georgia and three years at the University of Miami.

Before addressing a full audience, Richt reflected on how his football experience shaped his outlook on life and adversity.

“Things are not always going to go the way you want and there are things that are going to happen to you in life. Some of those things you cannot control, but you can control how you react to them.”

Richt was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in May 2021, yet his strength and mindset remain grounded in the lessons derived from football.

“The reason I love football is that it is tough. You are guaranteed to get knocked down, but you just have to get back up.”

Resilience Through Faith and Experience

Richt’s story and message embody the event’s central theme—transforming struggle into triumph through endurance, faith, and perspective.
