New Wicked: For Good is set to premiere in theaters on Friday, November 21. The first Wicked movie, released in November 2024, quickly gained cultural significance. It is based on the popular Broadway musical and explores the backstory of Glinda (Ariana Grande), the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West, revealing that they were once college friends and roommates.
A series of events, however, drives a wedge between them, turning them into the enemies familiar from The Wizard of Oz. The first movie ends with Elphaba and Glinda reaching the Emerald City to seek help from the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), hoping to stop the mysterious silencing of Ozian animals.
"But it turns out the Wizard himself is behind the chaos, and he wants Elphaba to help him in his overarching plans for Oz."
Elphaba refuses and escapes Oz, determined to protect the animals on her own. Meanwhile, Glinda remains behind, seemingly gaining the favor of the Wizard and the powers in Oz. The sequel, Wicked: For Good, will continue the story with its own unique take on the ending. Fans of the Broadway show may recognize the broad storyline, but much still awaits discovery in this film.
Wicked: One Wonderful Night is available for streaming exclusively on Peacock.
