Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle provided a positive update on veteran point guard T.J. McConnell, sidelined since early October with a left hamstring strain.
McConnell, 33, suffered the injury on October 7 during the team’s preseason opener. Initially expected to miss at least a month, he is now gradually increasing his workout intensity and getting closer to returning to play.
Carlisle told reporters, “I know he had a workout today. I hadn’t heard how that went, but I heard he’s been ramping up pretty steadily.”
The Pacers’ backcourt depth has been stretched this season. Rookie guard Kam Jones, selected 38th in this year’s draft, has also been sidelined since early October due to a lower back stress reaction.
Carlisle said, “His return is not imminent,” signaling a cautious approach to Jones’s recovery.
Last year’s Eastern Conference champions, the Pacers have had a slow start this season with a 1–8 record.
T.J. McConnell is steadily recovering from a hamstring injury with coach Rick Carlisle optimistic about his return, while the Pacers navigate a challenging start to the season.
