Neighbours on a street in Sussex have celebrated a major win with the People's Postcode Lottery. One great-grandmother is now planning a trip to the USA to visit her son.
The People's Postcode Lottery is a subscription lottery in the UK that supports charities while awarding cash prizes to players. From Monday to Friday, 20 different postcodes can win £1,000 each day. On Saturdays, players compete for a share of £1 million.
On Saturday, October 18, residents at the TN40 1LY postcode in Bexhill-on-Sea won the weekly Millionaire Street prize. Five homes in the postcode each received £200,000.
Barbara Cartmel, who lives in a seaside apartment with views over the English Channel, was among the winners. She expressed her excitement:
"I'm shaking like a leaf! It means I can go and see my son again and his family - that means the world to me."
"In two words? I didn't think at my age I could be so excited about anything again. When you get to 80, you think you've seen everything and done everything. I imagined I’d maybe won £1,000, and I’d have been chuffed with that."
Barbara plans to use her prize to fly across the USA to visit her son and his family.
