Nine News Queensland sports anchor Jonathan Uptin and Sydney news and weather presenter Amber Sherlock are among about 50 job cuts across Nine’s streaming and broadcast division.
Amber Sherlock was absent from yesterday evening’s news broadcast, with presenter Sophie Walsh filling in. Sherlock joined the network in 2007, initially working on Today as the business reporter before becoming a weekend anchor. Since 2011, she served as a news anchor and weather presenter for Nine News Sydney.
Jonathan Uptin, who had been with Nine since 1994, was also made redundant. Over his 31 years at the network, he worked in newsrooms across Sydney, Newcastle, Darwin, and Queensland. In early 2023, he replaced Wally Lewis as the weeknight sports presenter in Queensland.
"At one stage, during Karl Stefanovic’s elongated contract negotiations, he was floated as a possible replacement for the Today role."
Both presenters were significant figures at Nine, reflecting the scale and impact of the job cuts on the network.
Summary: Long-serving Nine presenters Amber Sherlock and Jonathan Uptin were among around 50 staff cut from the network’s streaming and broadcast division, marking the end of notable careers.
