Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has given Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.

Rep.-elect Grijalva, who was elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District, has yet to be sworn in three weeks after her election. In a letter to Johnson's office, Mayes stated that she will take legal action if the ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday, before the end of the federal government shutdown.

Mayes announced the letter during the official canvas of the September 23 special election results. This procedural step is part of the election process, which also involves Arizona Gov.

Mayes threatened litigation if Johnson does not schedule Grijalva's oath of office ceremony by Thursday.
