Fire at Lorton Scrap Yard Injures Multiple People

A fire broke out at a recyclables scrap yard in Lorton, Virginia, on Tuesday, leaving a firefighter and six others injured, with one in critical condition.

Firefighters from Fairfax County and Fire Rescue battled the flames at Davis Industries, located at 9920 Richmond Highway, for several hours.

A shelter-in-place advisory was issued for residents within a mile of the fire as a precautionary measure, according to firefighters, and was later lifted around 7:30 p.m.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hunter said a scrap metal debris pile went up in flames around 1 p.m. The reason why is still under investigation.

Firefighters rescued an employee who was trapped in a crane at the time of the fire and was in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.
