City of Nanaimo to Refurbish Marsh Tower in Honour of Conservationist

The City of Nanaimo, in partnership with the Nature Trust of B.C., will refurbish the viewing tower at Buttertubs Marsh and rename it in memory of Bill Merilees, a well-known conservationist.

Merilees dedicated over 40 years to conservation and enhancements at Buttertubs Marsh, founding and chairing the Friends of Buttertubs and prioritizing environmental stewardship.

He championed the marsh as a protected nature reserve.
