After a 45-hour outage, power was restored to Sturgeon Landing at 6:03 p.m. on Tuesday, ending a period of time where residents had to haul water, melt snow, and rely on wood stoves for heat.
Amanda Sinclair, a member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, described the challenges faced by the community during the blackout.
“It was 45 and a half hours with no power,”Sinclair said. The power outage was caused by a Thanksgiving weekend blizzard that downed trees and power lines across northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Although power has been restored to Sturgeon Landing,
“four other communities we’re connected to are still off”, according to Sinclair.
