Key West's Homecoming Traditions Turn 75

Seventy-five years have passed since the first homecoming game, with the country electing a dozen presidents, fighting and resolving wars, and witnessing a significant shift in music from sock hops to hip hop.

The world has changed vastly between 1950 and 2025, with advancements in technology, such as the transition from black and white TV, and social changes, including the desegregation of schools.

Despite these differences, Key West's hometown traditions remain a constant, uniting high school students across generations.

This week, Key West High School's football team will take the field for the 75th annual Homecoming game, where the 75th Homecoming queen, voted by her fellow students, will be crowned during halftime.

The island still treasures its hometown traditions.
