President Donald Trump signed a proclamation to impose a 25% tariff on imported medium- and heavy-duty trucks, starting November 1.
The tariff will not apply to trucks compliant with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), except for their non-American parts. Auto parts compliant with the agreement are also exempt from the tariff for now.
A 10% tariff will be imposed on buses and motorcoaches.
A fact sheet from the White House stated that the exemption for CUSMA-compliant vehicles will remain in place until a process is established to apply tariffs to non-U.S. parts.
The latest levies are part of the ongoing trade policies implemented by the Trump administration.
