The latest HMRC update reveals that the Chancellor collected £1,129 million in Capital Gains Tax (CGT) in the first six months of 2025/26, an 8% rise from the previous year.
Inheritance Tax (IHT) receipts also increased by 3% to £4.4 billion in the same period.
CGT receipts are estimated to hit £25.5 billion a year by 2029/30 – nearly twice current levels.
