On its voyage, a barrel was filled with waters collected from each stop along the Erie Canal. At each port, representatives were presented with a white pine tree, the Haudenosaunee's "great tree of peace," to plant.

The crowd gathered at Lauraville Landing Park in the Village of Clyde to greet the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief. The Seneca Chief began its 33-day bicentennial voyage along the Erie Canal to New York Harbor on Sept. 24.
